Mary and William John were married by licence issued by The Faculty Office 4 September 1837 Mary seems to have been a very strong woman, she went to England 1876 with her daughter Emma Jane and several grandchildren, during their stay Emma Jane died in 1882. 1881 living at 44 Marina, St. Leonards, Hastings, Sussex, England Mary brought up several of her grandchilden due to their parents dying and leaving them orphaned. She was a teacher at Christchurch Day School, St Peter's College, and Pulteny Street School and was remembered by her past students by way of a stained glass window in Christchurch. |
