THE PRIOR FAMILY OF CROYDON AND ADDINGTON

Chapter 101

George KING (c.1826-1899)

George King was born around 1826 at Horley, Surrey, the son of Edward and Frusanna KING.  The IGI records a christening as follows:

  • 14-May-1826, Parish Church, Horley. Son of Edward King & Frusanna

George married Sarah WOOD, the daughter of John WOOD, on 15th February 1845 at Horley Parish Church.  Both are described as servants on the marriage certificate, and both the fathers are labourers.  Residence at the time of marriage is simply listed as Horley.  Their ages are recorded as 22 and 21 which must be incorrect when compared to census records.  Witnesses to the marriage were William Bank(?) and Eliza Worsfold.

George and Sarah had the following known children as verified by the census information listed below and the parish registers of Charlwood:

  • Mary Ann KING, b. about 1846
  • Eliza KING, b. 1848, bap. 2nd July 1848, d. 1849, bur. 17th June 1849 at Charlwood
