Chapter 3

William Henry PRIOR (1878 - c1960)

William Henry PRIOR, was born on 20th February 1878 at Pages Cottages, Sydenham Road, Croydon, Surrey, the son of James and Fanny Prior.

William married Mary Ann KING, the daughter of John and Eliza KING, on 20th August 1899 at St James Church, Croydon.

According to his son, William worked at various times for R.Whites (lemonade) and Brocks Fireworks (and apparently called the manager, Mr Brooks, 'Uncle' - this is borne out by Figure 10 which shows that his Aunt Eliza married Thomas BROOKES).

At the time of the 1901 census, William and Mary were living at 43 Sidney Road, Croydon (see Table 1) with their eldest child.

William and Mary had the following known children (see Figure 9):

• Mary Ann PRIOR b. 2nd February 1900, d. Abt 1994

• Ivy Ellen PRIOR b. 31st August 1901, d. 4th January 1995 (see Figure 11)

• William George PRIOR b. 4th June 1903, d. December 1981

• Alfred PRIOR b. 3rd May 1905

• Charles PRIOR

• Frederick PRIOR b. 2nd April 1914

• Arthur PRIOR b. 27th February 1917

William died sometime around February 1959 or 1960. Where or why is not yet known.
