| Will* | He left a will on 11 December 1780 at Leigh-on-Sea, Essex; Will of John Harridge 1780 This is the last Will and Testament of me John Harridge of Leigh in the County of Essex distiller who am of sound & perfect Mind and Memory I appoint my uncle Thomas Harridge and my friend Mr William Odden of Prittlewell joint Executors of this my will and I do desire and direct that my said Executors shall & do within twelve months after my decease collect together all my ready money and securities for money and sell and dispose of my freehold Messuage and Land thereunto belonging (???) all my (???) goods chattels Furniture (???) apparel and all other my personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever and thereout pay & satisfy all my just debts funeral expenses and the charge of proving this my Will and retain to themselves all such expenses as shall accrue in the execution or defense of this my will and after such deductions thereout made I give unto my loving Wife Susanna Harridge and to my two Children John & Jeremiah Knight Harridge or to any other Child that shall be born in due time after my decease the residue of the monies w[hi]ch shall arise by all or any of the means aforesaid to be equally divided between them share & share alike my wife's share to be paid within twelve months after my decease and the shares of the children to be paid at such times as the Executors shall think necessary And my Will is that my said Executors or either of them shall not be answerable for any loss or losses of or in the said Trust monies unless the same shall happen through his or their own willful neglect or default and hereby revoking all other wills by me heretofore made I do declare this alone as & for my last will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this thirteenth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & eighty. John Harridge - Signed sealed & published by the said John Harridge the Testator as & for his last will & Testament in the presence of us who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto. Henry Ellis - Giles Westwood - Luke Underwood This Will of John Harridge late of the parish of Leigh in the County of Essex deceased was proved on the eleventh day of December in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty Before the Reverend Thomas ?Weir? Clerk Surrogate &c by the Oaths of Thomas Harridge and William Odden the Executors named in the said will to whom Administration of all and singular the Goods and Chattels and Credits of the said deceased was granted and committed they being first sworn duly to administer. |
