The Will of Isaac Harridge of Leigh, 1766

In the Name of God Amen I Isaac Harridge of Leigh in the County of Essex Dredgerman being in bodily health and of Sound and Perfect mind and memory Praised be Almighty God for the Same Do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to say) First and principally I commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God my Creator hoping through the Merits of Jesus Christ to obtain pardon and remission of all my Sins and to inherit everlasting: and my body I commit to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executrix and Executor hereafter named And as to the worldly Goods and temporal Estate God hath given me I devise and dispose of as follows First I Will Order and Direct that all my just Debts and Funeral Expenses Shall be first of all paid and Satisfied And I give and devise to my dear Wife Mary Harridge All that my Messuage or Tenement wherein I now live Situate lying and being in Leigh aforesaid together with all Ways Passages Easment Profits Commodities and Appurtenances thereunto belonging To hold to her my said Wife Mary Harridge and her Assigns for and during the Term of her natural life Also my Will and Meaning is and I do hereby declare it to be that my Said Wife Mary shall have full power to Mortgage or Sell the Said Messuage or Tenement provided She is under any necessity for So Doing But in case my Said Wife doth not Sell or dispose of the Same Then at and immediately after her decease I give and devise the Said Messuage or Tenement with all and Singular its Appurtenances thereunto belonging to my Sister Mary Harridge To hold to her my Said Sister and to her Heirs and Assigns for ever Also I give and bequeath to my Said Wife Mary Harridge All and Singular my ready money Bills Bonds Goods and Chattels Vessells and Boats and parts of Vessells and Boats and all my Craft belonging the Oyster Trade also my Leases of the Oyster Grounds also Coals and Coal Pens and all other my Substance whatsoever in whose hand custody possession or keeping the Same is in can or may be found for and during the Term of her natural life for her support and maintenance And my further Will and meaning is that whatever of my personal Estate my Wife Shall die possessed of I give and bequeath the same to my Brother David Harridge And I make and appoint my Said Wife Mary Harridge and my Said Brother David Harridge Executrix and Executor of this my Will And Lastly I do hereby revoke all former and other Will or Wills by me made declaring this only to be my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said Isaac Harridge have hereunto Set my hand and Seal the Sixth day of April in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty five

This Will was proved on the Fifth day of June in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Six Before the Reverend Morice Morice clerk Surrogate & by the Oaths of Mary Harridge Widow the Relict and David Harridge Brother of the deceased the Executors to whom Administration of all and Singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the Said deceased was granted and committed on the Thirteenth day of the Said Month of June they being first Sworn duly to Administer
