Quote From A Letter From Barbara HEMSLEY To Jeanne Kathleen PRIOR |
| I note your query about Gran & Grandad's name - it was GILLAM. Vera and Pat's maiden name was GILLHAM, all very confusing. Gran's name was Sarah Jane KING, but where she or Grandad came from I don't know. I do know that Grandad's mother was widowed, had several children and married the local greengrocer who was nicknamed 'Happy' VICKERS because he was such an old misery! He had the shop on the corner of Selhurst New Road & Gloucester Road. Grandad always 'wasted' money apparently. Mr HOOK the stonemason often gave me an envelope to give to Gran. She said it was repaying a loan he'd had from Grandad to start his business.
